[Madison, Wisc…] Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald cited the MacIver Institute’s lawsuit again Senator Jon Erpenbach on Tuesday as the motivation behind an attempt to gut Wisconsin’s open records law in the budget.

Those changes were presented Thursday night last week as part of the budget’s wrap up motion in Joint Finance. It received immediate and overwhelming criticism. The Senate was forced to take it out of the budget at the beginning of the floor debate on Tuesday.

However throughout the day, Fitzgerald pointed to the MacIver Institute suing Erpenbach in 2012 over an open records request. He said that highlighted the need for privacy.
