[Madison, Wisc…] Taxpayers could get relief from prevailing wage, but only at the local level of government, if a substitute amendment by Sen. Stephen Nass (R-Whitewater) ultimately becomes law.Nass proposed the change that would repeal the law at the local level and raise the applicability thresholds at the state level after an 8 hour public hearing Tuesday.
Nass is the Labor Committee Chair and plans to propose the amendment at an executive session on Thursday. The committee would then vote on it during that same meeting.
Neither the original bill, nor the substitute amendment is expected to get a 3-2 majority in committee. Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) made it known last week he does not support repealing wage.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald told reporters the hearings this week have muddied the waters on the issue. He doesn’t know if he can mobilize the 17 votes needed to pass it on the floor.
