MADISON, Wis. – Amid a flurry of activity as the Legislature flies through its winter session, Gov. Scott Walker and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced on Thursday they had reached an agreement on tax relief.

The plan returns $122 million of the state’s projected surplus via a one-time child sales tax rebate and a sales tax holiday in August 2018, projected to save taxpayers an additional $50 million.

MacIver News caught up with Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) Thursday prior to a meeting of the Joint Finance Committee. Here is his reaction to the Walker/Vos tax agreement and the prospect of raising transportation revenues – back in the conversation after Walker commented he’d be open to a gas tax increase.
